Philemon 1:1-21
Grace is described in the dictionary as ‘the condition or fact of being favoured by someone’ or ‘free and unmerited favour’
Someone described grace as ‘God’s redemption at Christ expense’
I will also describe grace as a superior stooping down to favour an inferior.
That brings us to a question, is grace fair?
Why should Jesus who knew no sin should die for sinners? The answer is the love of God for his creation.
Ezekiel 18:32 says
32For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.
It is the love of God for his creation that moved God to grace.
In the passage Philmeon 1, Paul was asking Philemon to forgive and take back the fleeing slave Onesimus not only as a brother, but as he would have received Paul himself. Onesimus’ offence of escape from his master at that time is death, so also is our disobedience to God is death. We have gone away from God but Jesus shed his blood and if you receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour, God will wipe away all your sin and restore you.
Romans 3:23 tells us that we have all sinned and fall short of God’s glory. Your good work cannot save you but the blood of Jesus.
It does not matter how deep in sin you are, the blood of Jesus is all you need to wipe your sin and restore you to God.
Romans 5:20-21 says the greater the sin the greater the grace to cover any sin. At the same time Romans 6:1 warned us not to take God’s grace for granted. Do not be deceived by the saying that once saved is forever saved. Hebrews 6:4-6 also warned us of this danger.
Please take advantage of the amazing grace of God today, tomorrow may be too late, call out to God today.
May the special grace and power in the blood of Jesus wash you clean.
God be with you.
