Theme: Know and stay in your calling
2 Samuel 11:1-5
And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.
And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.
We all have divine purposes to fulfil in this world.
According to this passage, it was the responsibility of the king to lead the people to war.
However, David decided to send his army chief to perform his responsibility. To be comfortable is good but we must be careful the enemy does not use our comfortability to lure us to do evil. There is a popular saying that the devil find work for an idle hand. If your mind is not filled and focus on positive things and the word of God, the enemy will fill it negatively.
If David was at war, he will not be able to see a woman bathing and committed adultery, and later murdered her husband to cover up his sin. His decision to stay back at home cost him far more than he could have imagined and a permanent dent on him for the rest of his life, according to 1 kings 15:5 Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and turned not aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.
Focus on the will of God for your life, your calling, and you will not fulfil the lust of the flesh or the wishes of the enemy –
Galatians 5:16-18
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
What is the purpose of God for you?
Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Are you saved, are you sure if rapture happens today, you will not be left behind?
Settle that with the Lord today, call on him, forsake your sins and be born again.
Secondly, become a soul winner, try as much as possible to speak to people about the saving grace of the Lord. This is the start, the Lord himself will then guide you to greater purpose for your life. Believe me, no one serves the Lord and regret.
